Dusk of Musk
I’m Dan Piraro, the creator of the Bizarro newspaper comic, and this is my weekly blog post. The large Sunday Bizarro comic above is mine, as are the comments below. The past week’s Monday-Saturday Bizarro comics that follow were written and drawn by my partner Wayno. For more fun, check out Wayno’s weekly blog post.
And here’s this week’s ANSWER KEY to my Sunday comic’s Secret Symbols.
Welcome to another roundup of our cartoons for the week, Jazz Pickles. Thanks for bringing your jazzy, pickled selves to our little comedy cottage on the web.
The Sunday comic above is a little depressing, so let’s talk about something else.
Another birthday snuck into my house last week, completely uninvited. I don’t know where these damn things come from, but if I don’t figure out a way to stop them, they’re eventually going to kill me. Just ask Diane Keaton.
As we all must do one day, the adorable and talented actress moved on from her mammal yesterday, and though we are saddened by her passing, our culture is richer for her having spent her life the way she did. I trust she is enjoying the next stage of her consciousness, and if she chooses to come back for another spin one day, I’m certain she’ll find ways to enrich the lives of future generations.
Yes, that was a very “spacey” paragraph, but we creative types sometimes dabble in those kinds of eccentricities, and I’m finding myself in that camp more often all the time. It might have something to do with all those birthdays.
New topic: Now and again, I like to pass on some entertainment recommendations to you folks, many of whom share my passion for great art of all kinds.
Olive Oyl and I have been thoroughly enjoying a Netfilix series called House of Guinness. It’s a 19th-century historical drama about the family that founded the famous brewing company, and the script, acting, and production are absolutely top-notch. We’re only a couple of episodes in, but we’re already lamenting coming to the end.
Also on Netflix, we recently watched Maria, a movie about the final days of Maria Callas, the famous opera singer. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Angelina Jolie in the title role, but she does an impressive job as the brilliant, eccentric, and complicated singer. Neither O2 nor I is a huge opera fan, but we loved everything about this movie. One of my favorite aspects was its portrayal of the dark shadow that Callas’s level of brilliance so often casts. I suspect genius of any kind always comes at a price.
Now it is time to ignore Wayno’s shadow while we enjoy his brilliance with his Bizarro cartoons from the week.
Make it a Hofbrow.
Might need a stocking cap to hide those ears.
Those tomatoes weren’t built in a day, either.
He’s an EINO: Elephant in name only.
Papa Bear travels with a lot of fur care products.
For penance, take the bus for a week.
That’s the whole deal this week, JPs. Thanks for your valuable attention. If you’re enjoying that we our content for free, please consider helping us keep it that way via the links below. We’ll kiss your photo before we go to bed at night.
