I am phibious

I’m Dan Piraro, the creator of the Bizarro newspaper comic. Each week, I post my Sunday Bizarro comic, a short essay, and then the past week’s Monday-Saturday Bizarro comics written and drawn by my partner Wayno, whose weekly blog post I highly recommend.

And here’s this week’s ANSWER KEY to my Sunday comic’s Secret Symbols.

Bienvenidos, Jazz Pickles, and happy holiday weekend. Whatever your relationship to Christmas, I hope you enjoy some time away from responsibilities and can spend that time with the people you enjoy. We don’t travel for major holidays because we do not wish to be abused, so we’ll be chilling at home with some of our fellow immigrants. (Our Mexican friends tend to have family obligations on Navidad.)

It’s been a hectic few weeks at Rancho Bizarro, but it has been in service to a higher purpose. Some updates:

The site on which my graphic novel lives, peyotecowboy.net, crashed almost two weeks ago, and my web guru has been rebuilding the broken parts. He is not quite finished but hopes to have it back up and running smoothly soon. I’m ready with a new episode the moment that happens! Here’s a sneak preview of it.

My subscription newsletter, The Naked Cartoonist, is almost ready to launch but we’re waiting for a couple of technological issues to be resolved. I had hoped to have the paywall functioning by now so folks could begin signing up but a technical glitch has delayed us. I hope the coming week will see that resolved and next weekend’s blog will offer you a sample of the writing I’ve been doing for the new venture, and tell you how to sign up if you like what you see.

For now, I’ll share the image below, the banner for the new page. I quite like it.

I’ve added a little more new art to my site, too. Check out the new banners for the Secret Symbols page, the Blog page, and the About page. (Links to each are always at the top of each page.)

Finally, my partner Wayno and I have put together a Bizarro wall calendar for 2024 (any other year seemed foolish) and it’s available just in time to arrive a few days after the holidays! (We hope to be more timely with next year’s.)

Let’s scuttle down now to Wayno’s Bizarro cartoons for the week and get chuckly…

I hope the monolith is wearing sunglasses and is perennially two days from its last shave.

It’s a deadly disease but children giggle and squeal when you cough.

I don’t care much for haiku because it requires too much math.

His hollow tree cookie business is totally off the books.

When I was a kid in Catholic school, I was always on that nun’s list.

This breakfast culture war between the U.S. and France signals the end of this week’s cartoon sleigh ride. If you like what we do and that we don’t charge you for it, please consider helping us keep doing it via the links below. In gratitude for your generosity, we’ll mention your name during Christmas dinner tomorrow.

Until next time, try to keep a good balance between naughty and nice.
